Scientists have long known that blood pressure drops after exercise, but the mechanism is not fully revealed. New research shows that bacteria in the mouth that produce nitrite are the heart of the whole process. Using mouthwash to reduce the number of these bacteria can stop the expected benefits of exercise for blood pressure. Post-exercise hypotension after acute exercise, called hypotension (PEH), appears in both healthy and hypertensive patients and lasts for several hours. This is due to vasodilation or vasodilation. One theory is that there was an increase in the synthesis of nitric oxide (NO) in endothelial cells by exercise. This is due to increased production of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), but other studies have shown that NOS inhibition has failed to inhibit PEH.
